Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav wants to make more 'Harry Potter' films.

The media executive confirmed that the organization will currently focus on franchises and on J.K. Rowling's approval hope to make another magic film. The author had caused controversy with comments on Twitter that many believed were transphobic. Some cast members have distanced themselves from Rowling, but the studio has indicated it would be willing to work with her again.

During an investor call on Thursday (November 3), Zaslav said: “We will focus on franchises. We haven't had a Superman movie in 13 years. We haven't done a 'Harry Potter' in 15 years. The DC movies and the 'Harry Potter' movies have brought Warner Bros. a majority of its profits... for the last 25 years." He added, "If we do anything with J.K. If we could do Harry Potter, we would."

Zaslav also stated that Warner Bros. Discovery should leverage big franchises like 'Sex and the City' and 'Lord of the Rings'. The 62-year-old studio boss explained: "What are the films that have brands that are understood and loved around the world? Outside of the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia combined have about 40 percent of the theaters that we have here in the US and there is local content. So if you have a franchise movie, you can often make two to three times the money you can make in the US by getting a slot and focusing on big movies. On the tent poles that people love and people will leave home and go to dinner early to watch the movie afterwards. And we have a lot of those.”

Film producers Anthony and Joe Russo are planning a live-action adaptation of the Disney classic Hercules. According to the brothers, the new version will be a musical and a special one at that: The social video platform TikTok will serve as the main source of inspiration.

In recent years, some Disney classics have been filmed for real: "Mulan", "Aladdin" or "The Lion King" are just three examples. Now another such project is pending: the story about the Greek hero and demigod Hercules was already implemented by the studio as an animated film in 1997. Now the material is to be reopened under the direction of Guy Ritchie.

Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, best known as directors of Marvel's Captain America and Avengers films, are on board as producers. The Russos now revealed the first details about the planned live-action adaptation to Variety magazine. One aspect in particular makes us stop here.

"Pushing the boundaries of a modern musical"
The new version of the Disney film is supposed to be a musical. "It begs the question of how to do it as a musical," explains Joe Russo. Fortunately, he also has an answer ready: With TikTok as a source of inspiration. "Today's audiences have been educated by TikTok, right? What are their expectations of musicals, how they look and how they feel?" The Russos' considerations aren't just about keeping up with the spirit of the times, because such a project could be "a lot of fun and help us to push the boundaries of the realization of a modern musical a little".

Whether this concept will be crowned with as much success as the brothers' Marvel films is yet to be seen. But it has already been shown in the past that TikTok can offer successful inspiration. Users of the video platform created their own musical based on the Pixar film "Ratatouille".

A one-eyed doctor (Christian Bale), a young black man (John David Washington) and an eccentric nurse/artist (Margot Robbie) meet in a French hospital during World War I... What sounds like the beginning of a joke is the crux of the and pivot of the new coup by director, writer and producer David O. Russell, known for films like "Silver Linings" or "American Hustle".

Bizarre, surprising and absurd
Because "Amsterdam" tells the story of the trio's unusual friendship, which finally brings them from Europe to New York, where the mysterious death of an old acquaintance triggers a whole series of unfortunate chains that could change the course of the story. So much can be revealed, in addition to the magnificent three also play a role in ornithologists without any morals, an old general with a penchant for bouillabaisse and a mysterious Club of 5, whose logo looks suspiciously like a swastika.

In case it wasn't clear from this short description: "Amsterdam" is probably one of the wildest trips that cinema has produced in a long time. The film is bizarre, surprising and sometimes just so absurd that you just wonder what the hell just happened. But it's so entertaining that you don't really care - because the fact is, "Amsterdam" is a lot of fun.

This is mainly due to the fact that, despite all the absurdity, the film manages not to slip into the banal and you have to hold the protagonists in your heart despite or perhaps because of their peculiarities. Small details, unexpectedly emotional moments and, above all, the great enthusiasm of the ensemble cast, which consists of so many stars that one regularly wonders: "What, he or she is also playing here?", show how much passion there is Film is stuck - and this is also transferred to the viewer.

Not perfect - but definitely worth a visit to the cinema
Of course, "Amsterdam" isn't without flaws either, which film is that? But let's just do it like the three protagonists in the Dutch capital, let it be five and have a nice evening at the cinema.

One Piece Film: Red: What is it about?
Anyone who has already seen the trailer knows that the focus is on a new character, singing diva Uta. With her angelic voice, she has built up a large fan base, which is now traveling to Elegia full of anticipation to hear Uta sing live for the first time. However, the tide turns when Monkey D. Luffy reveals a dark childhood secret. The horror among the concert guests does not prevent Uta from continuing her show - after all, her goal is to ensure eternal happiness with her songs. However, Luffy and the Straw Hat gang do not like how she puts this plan into action. When they lure Uta out of reserve, a life-or-death struggle ensues; because the "new era" that Uta sings about promises anything but bliss...

More for the ear than for the eye?
Unlike many other anime, "One Piece Film: Red" doesn't hesitate and starts right at the beginning of the concert. And let me tell you one thing: Music is guaranteed not to be neglected in this film. Uta performs a total of seven songs over the course of the 115-minute runtime (listen at Amazon) - in the original sound, because none other than J-Pop star Ado lends Uta her voice. Yes, you read that right; even those who watch the film in the German dubbed version will hear the original songs. But don't worry: the subtitles are easy to follow and do not detract from the viewing experience in any way.

Although the focus in the new "One Piece" anime is clearly on the music, the film also comes with a refreshingly innovative story that doesn't even have to leave the music island of Elegia to take us to other worlds. Anyone who expects too big plot twists and an unpredictable plot (and generally appreciates the nature of Eiichirō Oda's "One Piece" manga) will not be completely satisfied. Nevertheless, "One Piece: Red" occasionally surprises. Action-packed fight scenes, heart-rending dialogues and whimsically imaginative animations complete the cinema title.

A must-have, not just for One Piece fans
Needless to say, fans of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hats shouldn't miss this spectacle. But with "One Piece Film: Red" those responsible put together an all-round mannered overall package that is not only suitable for "One Piece" fans. Almost incidentally, the characters give sufficient explanations about all the important backgrounds, making it possible for even anime and manga laypeople to follow the plot of the film. If you have a heart for music and especially J-Pop, you will also get a taste for it.

If you want to convince yourself of "One Piece Film: Red", you should go to the cinema from October 13, 2022.
