Currently, everyone who is anyone in the film industry is gathering in Cannes. German actress Janina Uhse (34) is also attending the film festival at the Croisette. She walked the red carpet at the premiere of the movie "The Second Act" and attended the launch event for the new summer ice cream flavors at Magnum Beach. In an interview, the 34-year-old reveals what fans can look forward to in her upcoming film "The Nickname," and how her visit to the luxurious French resort town of Cannes has inspired her to create new food dishes.
Can you remember your first time in Cannes? How much are you enjoying being back in Cannes? Janina Uhse: My first and last time in Cannes was six years ago. I greatly enjoy this special magic during the film festival, which is incomparable and unique. There's a pleasant excitement in the air that you can almost touch, and it feels incredibly international and luxurious.
Everyone who is anyone in the film industry is in Cannes. Do you find yourself becoming a fan-girl here? Uhse: My friends are always embarrassed to go anywhere with me because I rarely recognize people. But in Cannes, even I recognize lots of people because it's so star-studded.
You will be seen on the big screen again at the end of the year. Can you tell us something about the sequel "The Nickname"? Uhse: Like the last two parts, you can look forward to a film rich in dialogue. There are interesting, entertaining interactions between people you wouldn't expect, and of course, the family in the East Tyrolean Alps creates a lot of chaos.
You are not only an actress but also a successful food influencer. Have you already gotten new inspirations for your recipes here in Cannes? Uhse: With the positive energy I'll be bringing back, new creations are sure to emerge. Traveling is always my greatest source of inspiration. In Cannes, a good glass of rosé and a Salade Niçoise are absolute musts. I'm also looking forward to the new Magnum flavors and the unique creations at the "Dipping & Spray" bar.
You regularly create a variety of dishes on your Instagram account and have published several books. What do you particularly emphasize in your recipes? Uhse: The recipes should inspire people to try something new without needing a lot of prior knowledge or days of preparation.
Summer is fast approaching. What do you like to eat and drink the most in the summer? Uhse: The main thing is that it's fresh. Whether it's salads, gazpacho, or, of course, delicious ice cream.
What is your favorite recipe for hot days? Uhse: I love grilling fruit, like peaches, pineapples, or watermelons. They are perfect side dishes for almost anything.
Can you share an easy summer recipe suitable for beginners? Uhse: Homemade watermelon juice with a splash of lime and mint; just put it in the blender, and it's ready.
Which food trends are particularly popular this summer? Uhse: Stefano Callegari invented the Trapizzino, a filled pizza sandwich, and they are incredibly good. I think they have great trend potential! I've already enjoyed them myself and would love it if he opened a store in Berlin soon.
