The actor spoke at a press conference for the superhero film that hits cinemas on October 21.
The new movie “Black Adam”, which opens in theaters on October 20, is the opportunity to introduce a new era in the DC cinematic universe, said actor Dwayne Johnson at a conference that Lusa had access to.
“We all wanted to make a movie that was different and unique in this world of the superhero genre that has been so successful over the years,” said the actor, who stars in the film.
“In trying to create a movie that was disruptive, there was a narrative: we wanted to open up a new era in the DC universe,” he continued. "What that meant was introducing seven new characters into this world, which is not easy, and doing it with intrigue and interest, and also with respect for mythology and fans."

“Black Adam” tells the story of an anti-hero from Kahndaq who has been imprisoned for five thousand years and is suddenly thrown from his grave into modernity.
With his own sense of justice, his tactics catch the attention of the Justice Society of America (JSA), which is introduced for the first time in the DC cinematic universe. Dwayne Johnson recalled that the JSA, despite never having been featured on the big screen, "was the first superhero group, before the Justice League."
This New Line Cinema production also marks former James Bond Pierce Brosnan's debut in the superhero universe, something the British actor always wanted to do and never had the opportunity to do. Brosnan plays Kent Nelson, whose alter ego is Dr. Fate.
"The Doctor. Fate is one of the oldest characters in DC Comics. He is a sorcerer, but first and foremost he is a man,” Pierce Brosnan said at the same conference. “His entry into this world came with a sacrifice, the death of his father, and then he bears the mantle of Nabu,” he explained. .
Referring that the character is very “close” to him, Brosnan considered that “when you have these kinds of secrets in our character's DNA, as an actor we can introduce a very personal subtext”.
Producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia explained at a second conference that great care was taken to respect the mythology of the comic books where these characters were created, including Black Adam.
“This is a character we were thrilled to get off the page and put on the big screen,” said Beay Flynn. "He IS a modern version of Black Adam that fits in today's world," he continued.
One of the important aspects was being true to the way Black Adam measures justice, being able to be aggressive but maintaining an understanding of morality. “Fulfills the anti-hero version of a superhero,” described Flynn. “It IS faithful to the genesis of the comic book while adapting to a modern audience”.
Hiram Garcia explained that the creators had worked on this film for over a decade and that a character like this "has never been seen on screen", reinforcing the idea that "Black Adam" is a distinct species in the DC cinematic universe.
“The audience is ready for something different,” Garcia said.
The rest of the cast consists of Aldis Hodge as Carter Hall/Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Al Rothstein/Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna, Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone and Mo Amer as Karim.
Dwayne Johnson called the group "family" and praised the actors' efforts.
"Black Adam is not a sequel, it's not an existing IP that everyone is familiar with," he stressed. “All these characters are coming to life for the first time ever in cinematic history. What makes me so honored and proud is that we can feel the effort that each one put into the interpretation of the characters.”
“Black Adam” is released by Warner Bros. and opens in Portuguese cinemas on October 20, one day before the United States. It was directed by Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, who recently directed Dwayne Johnson in “The Jungle Cruise.”
