New film adaptation of the novel planned: Bambi becomes the "diabolical killing machine"

Two US filmmakers plan to take advantage of the loss of copyright on the original 1923 Bambi novel to turn the innocent fawn into a killing machine.

Disney's Bambi is innocence personified. Now ITN Studios and Jagged Edged Productions want to reverse the image of the cute fawn and retell the story - title: "Bambi: The Reckoning". Producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield warned "Dread Central" in advance: "Get ready for Bambi with rabies", the fawn should become "a devilish killing machine" that "sneaks through the wilderness."

Frake-Waterfield is the executive producer of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which is set for US release early next year. Bambi, the second Disney classic, is also due to receive a splatter remake at the beginning of next year. This is possible because the copyright for "Winnie The Pooh" ended earlier this year and everyone is now allowed to use this character. The situation is similar with Bambi. The copyright rights to "Bambi. Eine Lebensgeschichte im Walde" have expired since 2016, the Disney film adaptation was based on the novel by Austrian writer Felix Salten.

Producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield and director Scott Jeffrey are now free to use the template. However, any Disney elements of Bambi's character are still off-limits to the filmmakers. It is therefore not yet possible to predict what Bambi will look like as a killing machine and whether he will take the death of his mother as an opportunity for a revenge campaign across the undergrowth.

Tom Cruise: Trouble for his 'Mission Impossible' hero

Christopher McQuarrie has hinted that Ethan Hunt could be in trouble in 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One'.

The 54-year-old director is helming the next two films in the action franchise and claims the title suggests that Tom Cruise's hero and other characters may find themselves in danger during the film.

Speaking to Empire magazine, Christopher said: "There are many things that come out of Ethan's past. 'Dead reckoning' is a navigational term. It means you choose a course based solely on your last known position, and that becomes a metaphor not just for Ethan but for multiple characters.”

The next 'Mission: Impossible' story is set to be told in two films, and McQuarrie is determined to make it a standout project in the long-running action series. The 'Jack Reacher' director said: "The first thing we knew was that if it's going to be a big two-part adventure, it has to be epic. It's going to have to be the episode that engulfs the rest of the franchise as a whole. There's just no other way to do it." Also, insiders have previously claimed that Cruise is planning some of the "biggest, most expensive stunts yet" for the 'Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two' sequel. So fans can be excited.

"Filming locations are cultural heritage" Iconic locations in European film history

Films immortalize places - the Trevi Fountain, the bookshop in Notting Hill, the Studio Babelsberg in Berlin, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, the Bergman Museum on Faro Island or the Odessa Stairs...

The European Film Academy has recognized 35 iconic locations, museums, monuments, places or landscapes as part of the European cinematic cultural heritage.

European film history is one of the oldest in the world and I think we should make a lot more of it. Because people are interested in classic films, and I think it's important to show where these classics were filmed... It's an important part of the work we can do to get cinema to a larger audience in Europe to interest.

The list of the "treasures of European film culture" gets longer every year... Studio Babelsberg, founded in 1912, the oldest in the world and the cradle of German film, is also one of them.

The Plaza de España in Seville in Andalusia has already served as a backdrop for various masterpieces such as Star Wars, The Dictator or Lawrence of Arabia.

More than a hundred films have been made on the beaches of Sète in southern France, including those by the unforgettable director Agnès Varda, who was one of the greatest ambassadors of Sète and French cinema.

On the other side of the door was time in its entirety—

17-year-old Suzume's journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she encounters a young man who tells her, "I'm looking for a door." What Suzume finds is a single worn door standing in the middle of ruins, as if it were protected from any catastrophe. Seemingly hypnotized by her power, Suzume reaches for the handle…

The stars

The sunset

the morning sky

Within that realm, it was as if all time had melted into the sky—

Drawn to this mysterious door, Suzume's journey is about to begin.

Shinkai stated that three important points about the film are that it is a road movie across Japan, a story about "closing doors" rather than opening them, and a reason to visit the cinema. He elaborated that closing doors could refer to tying up loose ends or finishing something.

Actress Nanoka Hara voices heroine Suzume Iwato in the film. SixTONES idol group member Hokuto Matsumura (live-action Liar × Liar film's Tōru, live-action xxxHOLiC film's Shizuka Doumeki) made his voice acting debut in the film as Sōta Munakata, a young man who embarks on a journey with Suzume as the "door -Closing Master.”

Shinkai (his real name, Weathering With You) directed the film and wrote the screenplay. He is also credited with the original story. Masayoshi Tanaka (his real name, Weathering With You) designed the characters. Kenichi Tsuchiya (his name., Garden of Words) was the animation director. Takumi Tanji (Children Who Chase Lost Voices) was the art director. CoMix Wave Films and Story Inc. produced the film. TOHO is distributing the film. RADWIMPS scored the film. Seattle-based Hollywood film composer Kazuma Jinnouchi (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, RWBY: Ice Queendom) scored the film alongside RADWIMPS. TikTok artist Toaka sang one of the film's theme songs "Suzume".

Shinkai also wrote a novelization of the film which was released on August 24. Denki Amashima launched a manga adaptation of the film in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine on October 25.

As young as in 1981: Harrison Ford was digitally rejuvenated for "Indiana Jones 5".

Another rumor has now been confirmed: "Indiana Jones 5" will feature a young Harrison Ford. There is also a first picture of Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

When Harrison Ford first appeared as adventurous archaeologist Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr. appeared, he was already 39 years old, only a few weeks away from his 40th birthday. There could not have been a better gift for the anniversary: Indiana Jones became the role of his life, although he was already allowed to play Han Solo in the "Star Wars" films, and made him immortal. Of course, even 30 years from now, this adventure series, which will soon comprise five films, will be remembered - and with it Harrison Ford.

"Indiana Jones 5" will definitely be the last Indy film with the now 80-year-old actor and probably also the farewell to the iconic character. As fantastic as the plot elements of the film series may be at times, you don't buy it even from Indiana Jones that when he is old he is still able to put Nazis on the Twelve. It's already extremely borderline.

No problem, then he'll just be made younger: that's what those responsible around director James Mangold ("Cop Land") must have thought. Because as the filmmaker revealed in an interview with Empire, Ford was digitally rejuvenated for the opening sequence, which will take place in 1944. De-aging is the name of the process that old master Martin Scorsese used for his mafia epic "The Irishman" with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci:

"I wanted to take the chance to dive into that old George [Lucas] and Steven [Spielberg] movie and give the audience an adrenaline rush. […] So the audience does not experience the change between the forties and sixties as an intellectual mind game, but literally experiences the buccaneer spirit of those early days… followed by the beginning of the present.”

This is indeed reminiscent of the opening sequence of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, when first a significant experience from the youthful days of the young Indiana Jones reveals how he got his famous hat. So what will the focus be this time? The iconic leather jacket from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was even dug out of a warehouse especially for these scenes and reproduced one-to-one after trying it on. The goal, says producer Kathleen Kennedy, is to make the audience think they're looking at old archive footage. And according to Ford, that was also successful:

“This is the first time I see it and believe it. It's a little creepy. I don't think I want to know how it works, but it works. But I don't want to be young anymore. I'm glad I earned my old age."

The only question that remains is whether the digitally rejuvenated Harrison Ford moves like a young man. That was the big shortcoming of "The Irishman". For an actor optically trimmed to be in his late 30s, who continues to move like a late 70's, the immersion is gone no matter how good it may look. You can find out more about Harrison Ford's Indy farewell performance in our video.

Indiana Jones 5: First picture of Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena
The first pictures of Harrison Ford and the Nazi villains, played by Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook, have already appeared. Now finally a first look at Indy's goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge):

Not much is known about her yet. Rumor has it that she could succeed Indiana Jones and star in the officially confirmed "Indiana Jones" series for Disney+. So the series can be continued without having to find a new actor for Indiana Jones. For Waller-Bridge, the role is like a jackpot:

“She is an enigma and a wonder. Kathy [Kennedy] was in London and wanted to have dinner with me and casually mentioned it. I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then I read a script faster than ever before. […] I just couldn't believe how much fun I was having and how moved I was by it. And then I had a Zoom [meeting] and everyone was like, 'Yes!'."

And: Helena will not just be there as an accompaniment and hold back, she is very involved in the action, promises Waller-Bridge. How, fans will see from June 29, 2023, when "Indiana Jones 5" starts in German cinemas.
