US box office: Black Adam remains master

The DC/Warner adaptation crosses the $100 million mark domestically and $250 million globally.

After a fanfare start at $67 million (M$), Black Adam fell 59% over its second weekend, but with $27.7 million in revenue, it already has $111 million, a large lead over the other films of the moment. Abroad, the superhero grossed $139 million from 77 countries, for a worldwide total of $250 million. France is the 4th market with $8.2 million, behind the United Kingdom ($15.3 million), Mexico ($9.3 million) and Brazil ($8.4 million).

In second position, Ticket to Paradise, released last weekend in the United States, lost only 39% and garnered $10 million. Worldwide, it now has $119.3 million.

The only novelty of the weekend, the horror film The Devil's Prey, distributed by Lionsgate and released in France by Metropolitan, starts at $7 million. Compared to other recent horror films, it's less than the debut of Smile ($22.6M) or Barbarian released two months ago ($10.5M), but almost as much as the launch of the Bal de l'Enfer ($6.8 million) last August.

Smile comes right after, with another $5 million for its 5th weekend in theaters, stronger than Halloween Ends ($3.8 million). Elsewhere in the world, Paramount's smiling film has accumulated $93.6 million in 62 territories, including $7.3 million in France, the 4th best market.

Terrifier 2, another horror film quietly released four weeks ago by Cinedigm Entertainment Group and Bloody Disgusting to start at $805,000, continues to rise and rake in $1.8 million this weekend. Damien Leone's phenomenal film has been acquired by Shadows and ESC Films for France, where it will hit theaters on December 28.

Chinonye Chukwu's Till, which opened in 16 theaters four weeks ago, expanded nationwide this weekend, grossing $2.8 million from 2,058 screens. Universal will launch it in France on February 8, 2023. The musical biopic Tár, with Cate Blanchett, who also saw his combination go from 4 to 36 in four weeks, then from 141 to 1,087 screens, reaches the million dollars, this which earned it 10th place in the top 10. Unfiltered went from 280 to 610 theaters for its fourth week, bringing in $549,000.

Note that James Gray's Armageddon Time was released this weekend in six theaters in the United States, for estimated receipts of $72,000, or a nice average of $12,000 per theater. It is expected in France on November 9

Terrifier 2, the horror that is shocking America soon in streaming

Damien Leone's Terrifier 2 is rocking America. The horror film, which openly mentions 1980s slasher movies, grossed nearly $ 6 million and sparked a rumble on social networks that recalled happy cases from the past, from "The Blair Witch Project" to "Paranormal Activity".

Scenes of spectators who feel bad, between vomiting and fainting, for a film that abounds in spilled blood but also knows how to be terribly funny in its gore.

The film, also appreciated by Stephen King, will soon arrive in streaming. From October 30, the United States can see Terrifier 2 on Streambox, accessible only through an American Prime Video subscription, while in Italy it is not yet clear how it will be possible to witness what is a real independent phenomenon.

The first chapter of the film, also available with dubbing in Italian, is not present in any catalog except in the illicit ones. Soon they may both be appearing on some specialized platform.

The success of Terrifier 2 is there for all to see and delivers the figure of Art the Clown to a horror icon like the villains of the past: Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers, Chucky and Leatherface. The violence in Terrifier 2 is by no means a boy's joke, but it is also true that as the evil clown kills, he always does it in a more surreal and deliberately comical way. This effect manages to balance the violence, which still follows the rules of the genre.

Among the things never seen before in a slasher movie, the opening scene, the one in which Art goes to a laundromat to clean the blood from his costume. In short, Terrifier 2 knows how to scare but also knows when to not take itself too seriously. Moments of lightening that serve to seriously terrify, when it is appropriate to do so.

The romantic of cinema: Claude Lelouch turns 85

Paris (AP) - Gérard is a bachelor. He is dying and his two best friends want to give him one last pleasure: to love one last time. They therefore turn to a pimp who, touched by the story, decides to take care of Gérard personally.

With "L'amour c'est mieux que la vie" (Love is better than life), Claude Lelouch, who celebrates his 85th birthday this Sunday (October 30), has not only created his youngest and 50th film, but also a kind of testament.

At his age, Lelouch said he was getting closer and closer to the finish line. Since a lot of importance is attached to a person's last words, he is now about to say his last words with the cinema, the director, producer, screenwriter and actor explained in an interview with the newspaper "La Voix du Nord".

Released in French cinemas earlier this year, the comedy drama is set to be the first in his latest trilogy. The Oscar winner wants to give posterity some certainties, especially his seven children and eight grandchildren. "When I talk to them, they don't listen to me. But when I make a film, they watch it."

What Lelouch wants to tell you and the world? First, without love, life has no meaning. Lelouch was married three times; his seven children come from five different relationships. Second, friendships are important. Third, things never turn out the way you want them to. Fourth: Money destroys the world.

Unmistakable style
Convictions that have shaped his cinema for over 50 years. Only this time he expresses it even more enduringly. As he said in the interview, he wants to be successful at the end of his race because the last few meters are important.

Few filmmakers have created such an unmistakable style as he: stories of men and women and their big and small lies, hopes and intrigues, sometimes bittersweet, sometimes sky-high. But he doesn't just stay true to his subject. Lelouch also shoots over and over again with the same actors as Fanny Ardant, Anouk Aimée, Gérard Darmon and Robert Hossein.

Another trademark: an emphatically aesthetic camera angle and his enthusiasm for making films. It is no coincidence that Philippe Azoulay's documentary film, which was released a few months ago, is called "Tourner pour vivre" - turning to live.

The director was born in Paris on October 30, 1937, the son of a Jewish textile merchant. The family fled from the Nazis to Nice, where his mother is said to have hidden him in cinemas. The beginning of a long fascination and enthusiasm. At 17 he won a first prize, and at the end of the 1950s he established himself as an internationally renowned director in France with documentaries and in 1966 with "A Man and a Woman".

Stir audiences with films
The story about a widowed racing driver brought him the two most prestigious awards worldwide: a Golden Palm and the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. In his more than 50-year career, he mainly shot love stories and thrillers, because for him the latter are love dramas: full of lies, manipulations and false promises.

Whether "Live life", "A happy year", "A man is looking for a woman", "The time of crime", "Everything for love" and "The most beautiful years of a life" - Lelouch rarely deviates from his principle from touching the audience, or as he says: «smiling through tears».

Sensitive, melancholic and deeply human: his style made him a "virtuoso of noble kitsch" for international specialist criticism, he himself defines his work as "popular auteur cinema". For the domestic trade press, Lelouch is the last romantic of French cinema.

Marvel's Black Panther 2 First Reviews: The Best MCU Movie Yet?

In Germany, the MCU film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be in cinemas on November 9, 2022, in about two weeks. However, the big world premiere took place yesterday at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. In addition to many celebrities, numerous journalists and influencers were invited to this event, who published their impressions on various social media channels shortly afterwards. Although these are not in-depth reviews, they do at least give a first impression of the mood. Therefore, the question arises as to how well Black Panther 2 was received by the guests.

The best MCU film yet?
The tweets and other reports paint a mostly positive picture of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Some of the journalists from the trade press are outright full of praise. Brian Davids from The Hollywood Reporter magazine, among others, was particularly impressed, and in his preliminary review he almost went overboard with a few superlatives.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is Marvel's most poignant and powerful film to date. It's powerful and dark in a way that's necessary. It largely abandons the studio's familiar tonality."

His colleague Charles Pulliam-Moore from the magazine Verge takes a similar view, who especially emphasizes the emotional tone of Black Panther. highlights Wakanda Forever. He describes the film's storyline as one of the "most intimate and heartfelt" in MCU history to date. Instead of focusing on pure superhero spectacle, he focuses on emotions like grief. Other premiere guests were touched by the way the late actor Chadwick Boseman was honored in the film.

"Terrifier 2": New horror shocker causes violent reactions!

Horror films make headlines best through blatant audience reactions. The newest flick in this category: Terrifier 2!

In the 90's a film became world famous that was made for very little money. But word of mouth about how spooky The Blair Witch Project was made the found footage flick very special -- and a huge hit. Since then, horror fans have always listened when a film triggers blatant reactions in the cinema hall.

The latest cult hit here could be "Terrifier 2". In 2016, the first film with the new serial killer Art, the Clown was ridiculed, apart from the bloody murder sequences little was offered. That seems to be changing now, because since the sequel has been in cinemas in the USA, reports of fainting spells or choking noises in the cinema have been piling up.

Even horror icon Stephen King seems to be a big fan, saying "Terrfier 2" would gross out viewers in the old-fashioned way:

The reactions help. On a budget of just $250,000, the film has already grossed over $5 million and will be showing in over 1,000 theaters across the United States over the weekend. It is questionable whether "Terrifier 2" will also be released in German cinemas, after all it is extremely bloody - something that the FSK is known to be not always friendly to.
