Will Smith apologizes to Chris Rock after the Oscars

The 2022 Oscars came and went, and what we will remember best was probably Will Smith's smock. The outraged movie star went on stage and dreamed of comedian Chris Rock after an inappropriate joke about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Will continued to shout swear words at the stage - and an hour later he received the Oscar for Best Male Lead.

Will's actions have been widely discussed in the media and among film lovers on Monday. Was Rock's joke too gross? Should Smith have been sent home without an Oscar?

While the Academy is launching an investigation into what happened, Will Smith has taken to Instagram with a public apology to Chris Rock. Here he writes that he went too far and is ashamed of his actions:

"Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive. My behavior at yesterday's Oscars was unacceptable and unforgivable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition became too much for me and I reacted emotionally."

"I would like to apologize to you publicly, Chris. I went too far and it was wrong of me. I am ashamed and my actions were not signs of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and friendliness."

"I would also like to apologize to the academy, the producers behind the program, all the participants and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams family and my 'King Richard' family. I deeply regret that my behavior has colored what has otherwise been a wonderful journey for all of us. "

Fantastic Beasts 3: Jude Law takes on Mads Mikkelsen in new trailer

On April 13, the universe of the "Harry Potter" saga will come alive again thanks to the third installment of "Fantastic Beasts". And the trailer gives us a glimpse of the clash between Dumbledore and his nemesis Grindelwald.

"The magic returns", tells us the poster of Fantastic Beasts 3. Expected on April 13 in our theaters, this new episode of the spin-off of the Harry Potter saga will send us back to the corridors of Hogwarts alongside Dumbledore (Jude Law ), whose secrets will obviously occupy the heart of the story, if we are to believe the title of David Yates' film. But the new trailer does not reveal them.

In view of the end of the previous opus, one of them should concern Credence, back in the guise of Ezra Miller. Even Grindelwald, big bad now embodied by Mads Mikkelsen and no longer Johnny Depp, that these new images show us a little more.

Because it is because of the war he wants to wage between wizards and Muggles that Dumbledore will be forced to set up a team to thwart his plans. And to face it face-to-face, as some images of what seems to be the final fight show.

Related Stories:

Will this scene end with the fall of Grindelwald, which will lead to his life imprisonment (and his murder by Voldemort in 1998, according to the chronology of the facts established by J.K. Rowling)? Originally, the Fantastic Beasts saga was to have five episodes, but the disappointing results of the second in theaters may have led Warner to secure its back.

It would therefore not be surprising if the Grindelwald arc ended in The Secrets of Dumbledore, even if it meant leaving the door open for other films and threats. While waiting to be fixed, it should be noted that Norbert Dragonneau (Eddie Redmayne) now seems to play a more secondary role in the saga of which he was to be the hero, but that his fantastic animals will obviously have a use in the dantesque combat which is announced. . Verdict on April 13.

Oscars 2022: Here are all the winners of the year

6 Oscars for "Dune", 3 for "Coda" - and only one for the pre-favorite "The Power of the Dog". Here are the big winners of the gala night!
Welcome back, the Oscars - everything is forgiven! After a couple of pandemic years that shook the film industry (and that viewer flop to broadcast last year), it was nice to see everything be just as usual. The stars were dressed up, the gold men polished, the red carpet rolled out in front of the Dolby Theater and hardly a single face mask in sight.

The cut prices
This year's gala was criticized in advance for choosing to award eight prizes before the live broadcast. The idea was to save some time and cut them into the program. It worked - like that. We do not have to spend too much time with the winners of Best Documentary Short Film who want to thank their mothers. Still, the gala dragged on for 40 minutes, thanks to tributes to the 60th anniversary of James Bond and the 50-year-old "The Godfather". Regina Hall wasted at least two minutes joking that she is single and desperate for a man.

This year's hosts
Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall generally behaved well as hosts. Some stiff jokes and some accurate - just as it should be. They ran with themselves, and the film industry in general, but also managed to break away with some seriousness and remind of the situation in Ukraine where support is needed. Hope the Oscars continue to recruit great hosts because it really makes a difference in such a long broadcast.

Music numbers
I'm also of the opinion that music numbers are needed to keep an Oscar gala alive and here we were treated to singing by both Beyoncé and Billie Eilish - but did we really need two songs from "Encanto"? Sticking to the nominated songs can be a good guideline for the future.

Zero Oscars to Sweden
There were no Swedish Oscars at tonight's gala where four make-up choirs hoped for a prize. Göran Lundström and Anna Carin Lock, nominated for their work on "House of Gucci", and Love Larson and Eva von Bahr, nominated for "Dune", were left without. The Oscar for Best Makeup & Hair was tricked instead by "The Eyes of Tammy Faye". Denmark ("Escape") and Norway ("The World's Worst Man") also lost money.

The favorites won
No major surprises otherwise among this year's winners. The golden men went exactly where they were going, at least according to all the odds. Jessica Chastain, Will Smith and Ariana DeBose received their statuettes. Jane Campion became the third woman ever to take home the Oscar for Best Director. Troy Kotsur is the first deaf male actor to win an Oscar.

"CODA" - best movie!
By the way, there was only one Oscar for Campion's "The Power of the Dog", the big favorite with 12 nominations. "Dune" leads with 6 Oscars. But the gala's real winner can still be considered Siân Heder and the feelgood drama "CODA", which won 3 Oscars - and was crowned Best Film!

This year's WTF
From a bang to a bang. The gala's biggest snack was Will Smith, and not because he won his first Oscar for "King Richard" ... but for the moment just before, which overshadowed his big victory. Smith received, to say the least, a strong reaction to an inappropriate joke from Chris Rock and went up on stage to pat him. These are the uncensored, live broadcasts we live for! Watch the clip here ...

X: Impressive horror with Xtra everything

We are hardly spoiled with good horror, especially those who are not remakes or sequels. Ti West delivers a hard-boiled slasher that manages to combine blood and sex with thought-provoking, human themes.

"X" is like a really good wine. When you first taste it, it is good and slips easily down your throat. But it is when you are hungry and the fantastic aftertaste comes that you really enjoy. Because even if "X" on the surface is a 1970s-inspired slasher (which also takes place in the mentioned decade) about some crazy lantis who terrorize a porn film production, it has more layers than you can count. When the subtitles roll and you really start to digest the film, you realize that it actually has something to say.

One can only applaud the director / screenwriter / producer Ti West, who has previously given us low-budget gems like "The House of the Devil", "The Innkeepers" and "The Sacrament". Clearly a fan of the genre as he previously manages to combine effective retro horror with black humor and human themes. But that, as here, succeeding in including old age, sexuality, prejudice and identity-seeking in a horror film that on paper sounds like a B-film is very impressive.

Related Stories:

It is a film that builds up slowly and subtly but becomes all the more frightening once things start to happen. There are more nasty situations - and a lot of blood - rather than cheap jump-to-effects. We also care about the characters who, despite their flaws and shortcomings, are unusually sympathetic and human to this type of film.

Much is due to West's script, which refuses the kind of hip, politically correct dialogue we often hear in modern slasher films. This is not least noticeable in an almost brilliant scene where our main characters discuss their roles in the porn film they record but also in society. How their morals - and in some cases double standards - are reflected in their view of s@x.

Someone who impresses all the more is the main character Mia Goth ("Suspiria", "Emma"), superb in a cool double role. Not only is her ambitious porn actress Maxine Minx an unusual heroine who does drugs, fucks and aims hard at the stars. British Goth has also adopted a credible American Southern dialect for the role. But she also plays the older, creepy lady Pearl, where in addition to fantastic makeup, she also gets an older woman's movements and behavior so that it is almost impossible to see that the wrinkled, thin-haired and slender Pearl is actually played by a 28-year-old. It is almost more impressive than Tilda Swinton's contribution as an older man in "Suspiria" (in which Goth also starred).

Goth is also backed by a flawless ensemble. It's extra fun to see "Pitch Perfect" star Brittany Snow steal every scene she's in as a promiscuous porn star with a twinkle in her eye. Martin Henderson ("The Ring") does a wonderful Matthew McConaughey imitation better than McConuaghey could have done himself. And between this one, "Scream" and "Studio 666", Jenna Ortega proves that we have a new horror movie star to count on.

"X" with its rural and 1970s environment is similar to many classic horror films - but at the same time manages to have something to say between the once-motivated sex scenes and all the happy splatter violence. It's a smart, fun, bloody and nicely packaged gift for fans of the genre who usually have to go through tired remakes and sequels. West and Goth have already filmed a prequel, "Pearl", and expectations are high!

Dares Hardy Krueger Jr. a new attempt at "Let's Dance"?

Richard O'Brien's "Rocky Horror Show" is on a major tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For the first time, Hardy Krüger jr. (53) took on the role of "narrator". After his premiere at the Deutsches Theater in Munich, the actor can be seen in numerous shows in four other guest cities: from Stuttgart and Cologne to Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. He reveals spot on news what connects him personally with the musical and how much his corona-related exit from "Let's Dance" affected him.

You are one of the prominent narrators in the musical "The Rocky Horror Show". What do you personally associate with this musical?
Hardy Krüger jr.: I associate my youth in Munich with the piece "Rocky Horror Show". It was an important and very nice time for me. The movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show" was like Tarantino for movie buffs today. A revolution and a statement. What's more, I played the role of Frank'n'Furter myself as an 18-year-old drama enthusiast. It's great that this piece is as cult today as it was in the past. This shows that we humans need culture. She is important to us.

What is special about the "Rocky Horror Show"?
Hardy Krüger jr.: The special thing about the show is that it is much more up-to-date and contemporary than ever before. That's really incredible. The creator himself would certainly never have expected that when he wrote the piece. In the transgender generation, this piece - as old as it may be - is a statement. Be free and be who you want to be.

Would you like to take on a role in a musical yourself?
Hardy Krüger jr.: I've already had the opportunity to play a role in a musical and am now looking forward to seeing the great young singers and dancers on stage. The role of the narrator now suits me better in terms of age. A Frank'n'Furter in his mid-fifties is a completely different statement, isn't it?

For a long time, Corona made it impossible to attend cultural events. How much do you enjoy these performances now?
Hardy Krüger jr.: Corona has cost us actors and artists a lot of strength. Not only were we worried, we weren't supported financially either. It's not easy when all you have to do is act for a living. Many of my colleagues now have completely different jobs or have left the country to find happiness elsewhere. I am very happy that there are events like this again. But despite everything, we have to take care of ourselves. Corona is still out there. Many people are still dying from the virus today.

Would you like to take on a series role à la "Forsthaus Falkenau" again?
Hardy Krüger jr.: I could definitely imagine getting back into a series on TV. I have never turned away from the TV. It just didn't have the right movies or roles that I wanted to play. I also wrote my book "Wendepunkte" and was on a reading tour. During the first lockdown, we also shot the movie "Leberhaken", which was shown at film festivals during the pandemic. Then later in the cinema and now it's on the "Süddeutsche Zeitung Mediathek" and on Pantaflix for streaming.

What would you miss without the limelight?
Hardy Krüger Jr.: I couldn't imagine life without the limelight? Oh but! I am first and foremost an artist who finds many ways to find fulfillment in the things I do - painting, writing, playing, cooking, gastronomy, interior design, building projects. The limelight comes automatically when you are successful in what you do.

What projects can your fans look forward to this year?
Hardy Krüger jr.: My projects are very interesting this year. But at this point I can't say anything concrete because I haven't decided yet. Otherwise it will bring bad luck.

Unfortunately, her "Let's Dance" adventure ended quickly. Would you like to try again in the next season?
Hardy Krüger Jr.: "Let's Dance" was a great journey. I would have loved to have continued. Maybe there will be another opportunity in the future. I would be very happy! No question.
