Hard to Kill", "Approved for Killing", "Today You Die", "Half Dead - Half Past Dead", "Driven to Kill - Damned for Revenge": The list of martial film titles in Steven Seagal's (70) CV seems endless long. With a few exceptions, such as "Lonely Decision" from 1996, the motto applies: if you know one, you know them all. Seagal cemented a reputation as a stoic one-man army first in A and then increasingly in B movies - as massive and unyielding as a wrecking ball.

So far, the star, who turns 70 on April 10, has shown little interest in escaping that reputation. His last film from 2019 is called "Beyond the Law", in other words: Seagal's screen revenge is still beyond the law more than 30 years after his debut film "Above the Law". Much more exciting - because more varied - than his cinematic work is a look at his life away from the camera. The more you get involved, the more it becomes clear: Seagal is a walking contradiction.

Seagal: The peace-loving Buddhist, the environmentalist, the reggae musician

Seagal has been a follower of Tibetan Buddhism for many decades. But not only that. In 1997 he was in all seriousness appointed by Lama Penor Rinpoche as a Trülku, ie the reincarnation of a former master. The appropriate headline was chosen for a report from that time: "The Buddha from another planet: action star Steven Seagal has now been officially anointed as action llama."

As a Buddhist, he has dedicated himself to pacifism, although he has achieved the 7th Dan in the martial art Aikidō. Seagal is a vegetarian, advocates for animal welfare, conservation and the human rights of Native Americans. In 1999 he received an award from the organization PETA for his commitment to protecting elephants.

When Seagal isn't kicking ass on screen (recently more direct to DVD), he enjoys making music. His first album "Songs from the Crystal Cave" was released in 2004. Stylistically, he was drawn to softer country, blues and reggae sounds. His musical message, which coincides with his Buddhist: the pursuit of harmony.

Seagal: The gun lobbyist, the Putin admirer - and lots of accusations

"I'm Russian, my grandparents come from Vladivostok and St. Petersburg," Seagal assured in 2014. He did this to the state TV station Zvezda at the time - and on the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which had just been annexed by Russia. Only shortly before that, in an interview, he sang a hymn of praise for Vladimir Putin (69), described the ruler as a "friend" who he "would like to consider a brother". Around the same time, Seagal lobbied Russian arms dealers to help facilitate previously banned Russian arms exports to the United States. The prayer wheel-like credo of the Buddhist gun nut and honorary deputy sheriff sounds familiar: "Guns don't kill people. People kill people."

Seagal's approval of Russia's annexation of Crimea was not forgotten at the top of the Kremlin. And so, in 2016, Putin himself presented him with Russian citizenship. With this, Seagal joined the pro-government Just Russia party, was the guest of honor at Putin's fourth inauguration as president in 2018 and ran as a member of the State Duma in 2021.

As clear as his edge as a Hollywood hero has always been, he meandered in a recent interview about the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, as expected. Of course he prayed that "both countries would come to a positive, peaceful solution".

However, to observe dangerous behavior by Steven Seagal, one does not have to look in the direction of Russia. Almost during his career, Seagal was heavily accused by mostly female co-stars in his US films. Allegations of sexual harassment have been documented from the early 1990s through to 2018. This is where the most serious allegation was made in the wake of the #MeToo movement: Regina Simons, an extra in the film "On Burning Ice" (1994), stated that in the Being raped by the main actor at the age of 18. Jane Seymour would like to return to her 'James Bond' character Solitaire.

The role of the Bond girl in 'Live and Let Die' made the British actress famous in 1973. In the film, Roger Moore as 007 seduces the beauty who, after their night together, loses her ability to see into the future and flees with him.

For Jane Seymour, her character's story isn't finished yet. "It came to me today because I'm so tired of hearing 'should a woman be Bond?' that I would very much like to be in a Bond film and I know exactly who I would play," she reveals with the newspaper 'The Independent'. "We don't know what happened to Solitaire, do we? When she lost her virginity, could she have gotten pregnant? Is it possible that she became a grandmother? And is it possible that her grandchild has her abilities?”

The film icon believes the quality of 007 films has improved over the years. "Bond is getting better and better and more in tune with the feelings, thoughts and issues of our time," says the 71-year-old. Bond used to be more of a "comedy", while today the focus is on the adventure aspect.

The magical creatures and wonders are back in a long, intense film that surprises with lots of disputes and thorns. In the third installation of "Fantastic Monster", we finally get a real insight into the complex relationship between childhood friends Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.

Almost four years and a whole pandemic have passed since we saw the smoke of our magic zoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), and all the magical creatures he keeps in his always equally expandable suitcase. The story we now have to follow takes over where a vicious Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen) once again manipulates himself forward to destroy everything in his path and in his zeal to achieve world domination. At his side he has his puppet Credence (Ezra Miller), a tormented soul who at the end of his predecessor was also revealed to be a forgotten Dumbledore.
 
There are those who refuse to play after Grindelwald's pipe, and above all of them is the young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law). The pill-dropping, well-dressed Dumbledore - who we may call Albus, now that it's teeming with Dumbledores - we were already newly introduced to in its predecessor "Grindelwald's Crime", and in part three it so rightly so that the title suggests focus on the Dumbledore family and all their secrets. Secrets that they may have to take and reveal now in order to get alive from this story.
 
It is a motley crowd that will try to stop Grindelwald from carrying out its evil plans for mass destruction, extermination and general dictatorship. In addition to Newt, we again find his brother Theseus (Callum Turner) the muggle Jacob (Dan Fogler), as well as Professor Lally (Jessica Williams) in a larger role as omniscient companion. Notably absent, however, is Tina (Katherine Waterston) who has now been reduced to a few cameos. Maybe she simply did not fit in with the gentleman's many characters and side tracks that we now follow.
 
The most pre-emptive casting choice to replace Johnny Depp turns out to be a crystal clear improvement. Our Nordic villain expert Mads Mikkelsen makes his interpretation of the cunning Grindelwald with bravura, and he shines specifically in the scenes that he and Albus have on hand. For some reason, Albus Dumbledore's sexuality became a hot potato when the author J.K. Rowling, outside the stories, told that she always had Albus in mind as a homosexual. In "Dumbledore's secrets" it is quickly made clear that this story is about more than the struggle between good and evil, it is about an old love relationship. The background history of both of them swims from time to time through flashbacks to the surface, where it is explained that their blood pact connects them forever, whether they want to or not.
 
The now trilogy "Fantastic Monster" has had a somewhat unfortunate journey, and has had a hard time finding a way out of the shadows where it has ended up in - the "Harry Potter" universe, which probably does not need any further presentation. The spin-off series' first film, simply titled "Fantastic monsters and where to find them", was an exciting insight into the American wizarding world as well as the muggle world, set in the backdrop of a beautiful 1920s. The sequel "Grindelwalds crime" never reached the same heights but chose to go a gloomier, slightly darker path; something that did not really appeal to either the critics or the audience.
 
It should be emphasized that "Fantastic Monsters: Dumbledore's Secrets" brings home a lot that was disappointing in "Grindelwald's Crime". Apart from the fact that the predecessor was messy and somewhat rejected, it largely lacked what I think the series should actually be about - magical creatures and monsters. It can therefore be happily announced that in "Dumbledore's Secrets" the story revolves around a smaller, deer-like animal called the quilin - one of the most innocent and honest creatures there is. The ugly, bamboo-like animal should be able to see through lies, so it is not entirely unexpected that many magicians want to draw on the poor little creature.
 
Dazzlingly beautiful panoramic views of landscapes and intensely crackling magician duels, yes, we will definitely enjoy that in "Dumbledore's secrets". What strikes me, however, is the lack of a fair dose of humor. In its eagerness to create a dark, frightening atmosphere, this subtle, simple humor falls away that we all remember from our upbringing with Harry Potter. The character Jacob Kowalski will once again be our "comic relief", but he is poorly supported by his companions and thus does not just become outside due to being a muggle-born - he also becomes the only reasonably humorous character. That he, as a smuggler, would also be able to 'hang on' all kinds of magical events and missions unhindered - he even gets a wand! - I do not really buy it either.

"Fantastic Monster" has always been a welcome adult variant of the "Harry Potter" we are used to. It's almost as if the film's heavy sociopolitical themes we follow are directly aimed at the grown-up children and young adults who once devoured everything with Harry Potter that they came across. The problem may be that the now adult Harry Potter lovers want a break from their ordinary, boring life just to dive into a magical fantasy world - not watch another movie about how depressing real life can be.
 
Film magic is not something you just conjure up, every single cone knows that. "Dumbledore's Secrets" is a long film, but where the pieces of the puzzle still find their way during the film's many intense minutes. Somewhere here in its third installation, "Fantastic Monster" has nevertheless found its own identity with its own pace and storyline. Despite the little brother complex, it still chooses to go in its own direction and with its many characters. Despite a somewhat complicated plot, everything falls into place in the third act of the film - which ends with a bang.

Jim Carrey thinks no one "can" top the original 'Star Wars' movies.

The 60-year-old actor admitted that George Lucas' space franchise, which started with an original trilogy in 1977 and has since spawned both a prequel and sequel trilogy and a multitude of television series, has become "great stuff". is, but nothing would come close to the early blockbusters.

The two series, on the other hand, are said to have characters other than Sherlock Holmes in the lead roles, characters who will be introduced in "Sherlock Holmes 3".

Variety reports that Robert Downey Jr. has two different spin-off series for its Sherlock Holmes movies under development at HBO Max. However, it has already been over a decade since "Sherlock Holmes" (2009) and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" (2011) premiered, two films that both managed to record over $ 500 million each.
 
But when it's finally time for the sequel "Sherlock Holmes 3" (which was supposed to premiere as early as December 2020), it seems at least that one plans to be considerably more ready to build on that "Sherlock universe "where we were able to follow Downey Jr. in the title role and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson. In recent times, both Benedict Cumberbatch (the "Sherlock" series) and Henry Cavill (the "Enola Holmes" films) have shouldered the role of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's master detective.
 
When it comes to the spin-off series, however, most things are still unclear. We do not even know which characters we will get to follow, especially considering that it is said that characters from the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes 3" will be in focus in these series. If the productions get the green light, Downey Jr. will. in any case, produce the new series together with his wife through their production company Team Downey, which is also behind "Perry Mason" at HBO Max and the Netflix series "Sweet Tooth".
